Sleep Appliance

Do you feel sleepy during the day? Do others complain about your loud snoring? You may have a common sleep disorder that causes your breathing to be repeatedly interrupted during your sleep cycle. This disorder can quietly drain your energy levels and reduce your quality of life, not only causing snoring and sleepiness but even bringing on headaches, mood changes and other health problems. Sufferers sometimes try to lessen these symptoms by making lifestyle changes such as weight loss, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and changing up sleeping positions, but this doesn’t always work.

When it can’t be treated by simple lifestyle changes, Oak Mountain Dental can help! Dr. Jake R. Richards, Dr. Mitch J Driscoll and Dr. Brandon Call can help you assess whether a Sleep Appliance is right for you. We offer various methods to help treat and manage it comfortably. Call us today to get your sleep back on track and feel your best every day!

There are two main types of Sleep Appliances:

  • Obstructive Sleep Appliances (OSA): OSA is the most common type of Sleep Appliance. It occurs when the muscles that support the soft tissues in your throat relax, causing a narrowing or closing of your airway and preventing enough air from getting through.

  • Central Sleep Appliances (CSA): CSA can be caused by a number of conditions affecting the brain stem, and results in an interruption of breathing while you sleep. It occurs when the brain fails to send proper signals to the muscles that control your breathing.
